Smart Medical Technologies' blood processing devices
incorporate a revolutionary new technology for separation of components from donor blood. Using this
technology, SMT has designed an apheresis device that operates on a continuous
flow centrifugation cycle to separate plasma, platelets and red blood
cells at twice the rate of conventional apheresis equipment, and to
then reconstitute the unused components for simultaneous donor
re-infusion. Incorporating modern materials and fabrication methods,
SMT's apheresis device is sufficiently smaller than competitive
machines, allowing for full portability and reduced consumer costs.
By increasing portability and decreasing costs, the number of
locations offering apheresis services will considerably increase. The
apheresis device can be used in a number of settings and through a
number of applications, including transfusion medicine, commercial
blood product manufacturing, therapeutic apheresis, dialysis, and
through other beneficial approaches.
